Wildwood Stables: Carriage Tours and Horse Camping in Acadia National Park
Located on the southeast side of Mount Desert Island, Wildwood Stables offers a unique way to experience the historic Carriage Roads of Acadia National Park.
Horse Camping & Stabling
Equestrians are welcome to bring their own horses and enjoy the Carriage Roads independently. While horseback riding is not offered by Wildwood, stable rentals and a designated horse camp are available for those traveling with their own stock.
This makes Wildwood a rare and valuable resource for riders looking to experience Acadia’s unique system of gravel roads without motor traffic.
Carriage Tours
From late May through mid-October, visitors can enjoy guided carriage rides that follow the same scenic roads originally built by John D. Rockefeller between 1913 and 1940.
Wildwood offers one-hour and two-hour carriage tours, each led by a knowledgeable coachman. Routes vary but often include views of bridges, forested paths, and mountain scenery. Private charters are also available for those looking for a more personalized experience.
